I came across this question:
"It appears to be___."
The answer given is "I".
We are so used to, however, saying "It appears to be me."

Is this some grammar similar to "It was I", "It was he" etc?

How to explain it?

Thank you.

Appear can be a copula/linking verb, but it's a poor question to me. The majority of native speakers would say me.

The I/me follows to be, not appears.

I agree that most of us would say me.

Thank you for your replies.
Perhaps in spoken English, we say "it appears to be me."
But is "I" correct in written English?

Whether it's spoken or written, most native speakers (for the third time) would use 'me'.
