Those are grammatically correct, but rather stiff. The 'respectfully' is not needed in British English, though it may be in your variety. We generally prefer tell someone something to say something to someone:
They told him (that) they were very sorry for coming late that day.
It's just as natural to say: They apologised to him for coming late that day.

Similarly, #2 is better as: We told her (that) we would not come to school the next day.

No. He said goodbye to his friends.

5jj already gave you that answer. It's "He said goodbye to his friends". "To say goodbye" is a recognised verb. Remember that not all verbs simply consist of "to + single word".
