    Compound sentence or complex

"They can't be coming or else they'd have called."

Is the above sentence complex or compound?

I think 'or else' is a subordinate conjunction, and if so, then the sentence is complex.

    Correct me please.

    Re: Compound sentence or complex

I would say it is compound because the two clauses can easily be separated into two simple declarative sentences.

    1. They can't be coming.

    2. Otherwise they'd have called.
