a home health aide / aid

She worked as a home health aide and would often leave their toddler daughter with her husband while she went to work.

This is from an article of CNN. How could Boston suspect's wife miss the signs? -

Would it mean the same thing as "aide" if I say "aid" in this case?

See the usage note. "Aide" is increasingly used. It would look odd to me to use "aid" as a noun to describe a person.
