    What conjunction is "that"?

The President said that Government would take steps to combat terrorism.

In this sentence, what kind of a conjunction is "that": Subordinating or coordinating? I feel it should be coordinating, because it is joining the following Independent clauses:

    1. The President said
    2. Government would take steps to combat terrorism

    Re: What conjunction is "that"?

"The president said" isn't an independent clause. It cannot stand on its own as a grammatical sentence.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
