    except these five

    Are these sentences correct:
1-We took all the extinguishers to the basement except these five to use in case of emergency.
2-We took all the extinguishers to the basement except these five to be used in case of emergency.

3-All the extinguishers were sent to the basement except these five to use in case of emergency.
4-All the extinguishers were sent to the basement except these five to be used in case of emergency.

Which extinguishers are to be used in case of emergency? Those which have been sent to the basement or the five that have not been sent there?

    Gratefully,
    Navi.

    Re: except these five

All are acceptable. I prefer 2 and 4 to 1 and 3. The five extinguishers that were not sent to the basement are the ones to be used in case of emergency.
