What does this "as such" mean? The dictionary definition is like this, but I feel it to be "because of that" referring to the previous content.
1.in the usual sense or meaning of the word 2.considering something only in theory, not in practice or in relation to a particular person or thing

Such is the adjective corresponding to the adverb so.

He is a judge and as such has a duty to keep his political opinions to himself.

No doubt I will take some flack for this, but I consider the usage of as such in your passage illiterate and meaningless. Nevertheless, I admit that it is heard. I don't know what the users imagine it means.

I agree that it is a strange use of the phrase. 'Therefore' would seem to be closer to what the author actually wants to say.
