    A question about direct speech

    Hello!

There's one thing that's been bothering me regarding the word order when indicating the cited speaker. When you have pronouns, you write the pronoun first, e.g., ...'he said', but when you have a name at the end of direct speech... Which is the correct way: "We are going to the park," Michael said or "We are going to the park," said Micheal (I've seen both versions)? Perhaps both are ok?

'Michael said' and 'said Michael' are both OK.

But so are 'he said' and 'said he'.

Anewguest, instead of sending your thanks in a separate message, just click the Like button, please.

The reason is that it is flagged as a new post, so we think you might have a follow-up question or something to add. Those of us with slow internet connections and/or old computers have to waste valuable time waiting for it to appear.

    Thank you.
