    local aged

Please help me correct the following sentence.

Ms. Yu points out that they had interviewed local senior citizens and got to know it was “poverty-stricken” when Zhao-Dong Elementary School was founded 50 years ago.

    Re: local aged

One question - did they interview the local elderly residents recently and found out that the area was poverty-stricken 50 years ago, or did they interview elderly residents 50 years ago and found out the area was poverty-stricken? Some common sense on the part of the reader helps but your sentence is ambiguous.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
