    flip vs toss

    Dear teachers,
I'm writing to you to know what difference is between the verb to "toss" and the verb to "flip" when talking about a coin? Is it just a difference connected to the differences between American English and British English or you use them with the same meaning?

Can I say: Since I do not know who to bring with me, let's toss for it/flip it out?
Are these he only two constructions with these verbs used in this way?

    Thank you all.

    Re: flip vs toss

I would call it a "coin toss," but tell you to "flip a coin." You might say "flip for it" if it was obvious you meant a coin. "Flip it out" is incorrect.

Here in the UK we usually say 'toss a coin'.
