    arduous beginnings

    Is the following sentnece grammatically correct?
    This year, on October 27, is the 50th anniversary of Zhao-Dong Elementary School, whose teachers hope that its alumni will return to their alma mater to share their stories of the difficult and arduous beginnings with current students.

    It is grammatically correct but not very natural. May I suggest: October 27 will be the 50th anniversary of Zhao-Dong Elementary School. The faculty hope that alumni will return to their alma mater to share with current students their stories of the difficult and arduous early days of the school.
