what is the foundation for good english

I am a mandarin speaker. English is my second language. I always feel my English is not good enough. I don't feel confident to write anything. But I hope someday I can write a technical book teaching other how to use a programming language. I don't know where to start to improve my English. At this moment, I can only type whatever I write in Microsoft word and if it doesn't show any red or green line(grammar mistake), I'll consider it's ok. I try to read on sentence structure, sentence type, type of phrases, clause, and diagramming sentence, but it doesn't work. I try to read on tenses, improve my grammar, but I think I still make a lot of mistake. I have no idea which part of English foundation I should emphasize on to improve my English. Can anyone help?

Does Microsoft Word really approve of "English" being used without being capitalized?
