    Question "retooled" and "redesigned"

    Hello,

What is the meaning of "retooled"? I read it in the following sentence:

Cadillacís biggest seller is the SRX crossover (starting price: $37,330), which accounts for 29% of sales. The rest of the lineup includes the retooled XTS ($44,075), the redesigned CTS ($38,905) and the ginormous Escalade SUV ($63,745).

According the free dictionary, the meaning of 'retool' is
v.tr.1. To fit out (a factory, for example) with a new set of machinery and tools for making a different product.
    2. To revise and reorganize, especially for the purpose of updating or improving: had to retool the city's economy.

So, I take it that meaning 2 is applicable here in the above sentence. It seems retooling is similar to redesigning. What is the difference between 'retooled' and 'redesigned'?

    Thank you

Retooling is usually associated with the mechanics of the car, whereas redesigning is usually associated with the exterior/interior look.
