Hey guys, I was watching a movie and at the beginning something terrible happened to a girl and then her friend who was talking about her just said: "Her gut is broken, we have know idea what she's thinking."

Does it mean that she's in a bad situation or something?

Thank you in advance.

It doesn't mean anything to me. Are you sure about "gut"?

It sounds like her friend is mixing up 'She is gutted' and 'Her heart is broken'.

There is an expression "gut feeling" which can be used for intuition. Perhaps the person is saying that her "gut feeling" was wrong, as if her gut was broken.

Don't worry. Fortunately, I have the memory (and the ankles) of an elephant! My post was:

I seem to have found the film/TV series you were watching by Googling that bit of dialogue. Unfortunately, it still doesn't make any sense to me. If anyone else would like to view the hits and give it a try: https://www.google.co.uk/#sclient=psy-ab&q=%22her+gut+is+broken%22+dialogue&oq=%22her+gut+is+broken%22+dialogue&gs_l=hp.3...1933.10500.0.10646.28.28.0.0.0.0.245.2394.25j2j1.28.0...0.0.0..1c.1.17.psy-ab.XDsiZiT8iFc&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47810305,d.d2k&fp=80993089dd7fc2e9&biw=1680&bih=952

not a teacher

"Her gut is broken".

This site translates the phrase as "Son intuition ne fonctionne plus".

So, although to me the English phrase is unnatural, they seem to read "gut" as "gut feeling". I have no idea if this ties in with the plot.
