    uncertain social status

    Dear Teachers,

if one group of people have high social status and other one an uncertain social status, can we say that the first one have a higher social status than the other one?

Are "high social status" and "uncertain social status" antonyms?

If a social status is uncertain, could it be sometimes high and sometimes low?

If not, what is the antonym for "uncertain social status"?

    Thank you for your help,

    Not necessarily.

It could be. The point is that we don't know.

    The status would be given.

    Re: uncertain social status

Thank you very much for clearing up my doubts? Could the status be also certain? Would it be the same as given here?

    Where?
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

    Re: uncertain social status

OK, I'll try to rephrase my question.

If I say "a certain social status", would it mean the same as "a given social status"?

No. A "given social status" means that somewhere else in the text you have provided ("given") that social status, so the reader will know which social status you are talking about.

A "certain social status" simply means "one particular social status" but without any further context, we wouldn't know which one.
