It seems to me that the speaker here at the first minute time- (0:54) used either the sharper (iː) so words heat, sleep or a sound closer to (eɪ) so word bake, eight in the word kiss instead of /kɪs/. Is it acceptable to say it in that way, please?

It's set in Australia, but the speaker isn't a native of that country. I'd guess at somewhere francophone - perhaps Algeria or Morocco.
