    Comma usage

    If he shows more signs of healing, at that point in time, I think we could release him and have him follow up as needed.

    Did I put the commas in the correct place for this sentence?

    If you are a doctor I'd say yes. This usage of commas is common and correct in professional/scientific usage.

    But if you want the best and clearest English I'd suggest elimination of the whole phrase at that point in time along with both its commas.

    On the other hand, if you're a medical transcriptionist, you have to write what the doctor has dictated, and you can't eliminate "at that point in time".
