Hello dear friends, I hope you are all fine.

Suppose there are many students at a Chemistry class. The students have passed their exams with good scores.

And the total score of the exam was (20)

Jennifer got 20 - Jack got 19.50 - John got 17 - Sarah got 16 - My brother got 15 - Jessica got 14

Me: .....................................?

My brother: I am fifth. (fifth student in knowledge)

Me: Oh ok. But try to study more.

I don't know how to ask my brother that now which student he is in the class. If you were me what would you write in the blank? I can't make that question.

Is it correct to say "Which student you are in the class"? "I am second " (i mean in the knowledge)

Thanks in advance.

We have covered this many times. Usually people want to know "If the answer is "Barack Obama is the 44th President of the USA", what is the question?" There is no logical question which fits all contexts. For example, you can't ask "How manyeth president is Obama?"

As far as your context goes, I would ask your brother "Where did you come in the class?" and the answer would be "I came fifth" or "I placed fifth based on the exam results".

Did you expect to get any better answers here than you got from WordReference.com?

I reckon you could ask, "What's your class ranking?"
