Although not familiar w/the movie (?), "fame return" should not be considered a term. First, there should be a comma after "fame" which would help in understanding that "Sally and Mike, the characters who appeared in the famous (fame) movie (?) Monsters Inc. return as characters in a new release Monsters University.

    Re: fame return

Yes, Monsters Inc is a film and Monsters University is its sequel.

The two characters are famous because they were in Monsters Inc. We can say that with "The two characters, of Monsters Inc fame, return in Monsters University."
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
