    estimated and projected

    On this map, comparing two curves in statistics, is written: 'Estimated and Projected World Urban and Rural Population.'

    What is the difference between 'estimated' and 'projected'?

    Estimated indicates a guess as to what it is now and projected as to what it will be in future.
