although i do understand the use and meaning, I'd like to find out about the etymology behind the phrase "Fangs for the memory".

It sounds like a play on "thanks for the memory."

Was in something to do with vampires? If so, it's a weak play on words.

It is a play on words. I can't tell you where it came from but it is indeed a pun that's usually uttered by someone playing a vampire and it's a play on "Thanks for the memory/memories".
