To write an academic essay, you have to read a lot. In such case, what do you call the materials you have read? For example, you have read something in the book or you have read someting from academic journal or you have read something on the internet. Then, what do you call eac thing you read? Can I say just text? And what do you say ' article'?

I assume that you are concerned with sources. Your instructor or tutor should provide you with some guidelines as how to reference your sources. If not, you can research different guidelines on the Internet by searching for the following key words, "MLA" (Modern Language Association), or, "The Chicago Manual of Style". There are other guidelines but these two are enough to get you started. Different scientific disciplines have their own guidelines. You can search for these guidelines by searching for "XYZ (Insert the name of the discipline) style guidelines".
