    Post Look Pretty In Photo

    Suppose there is a photo of a girl.

    "She looks/looked pretty in the photo."

    Should the present tense or past tense be used for the verb "look"?

    If the picture is recent, "looks".
    If the picture is really old, "looked".

    If you say "looked" the girl might think that you are saying that she is not pretty anymore!

    I feel the present tense is appropriate no matter how old the photo is. You are describing the image as it is now, fixed in a photograph.
    My mother looks very happy in this photo of her as a girl.
    I like this old photo of Charles Dickens, he looks like a dandy.
