    The rolls of fat

Please, would you take a look at these two sentences and correct them.

The rolls of fat on my stomach and my limbs made me look ugly. I knew I was eating a lot of unhealthy food not because of hunger but to alleviate my despair.

( I am not sure if "I was eating a lot of unhealthy food" is correct or if it should be "I had been eating a lot of unhealthy food")

If you're talking about a habitual action (which eating generally is) you could use "I knew I was eating a lot of ..." (meaning that at the time of "knowing" you were still engaged in unhealthy eating habits) or "I knew I ate a lot of ...". There is nothing wrong with "I knew I had been eating ..." either.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
