    Ing-Clause

    Some question about ing-clauses:

    ( news.yahoo.com/asiana-crash-evacuation-delayed-90-seconds-003354458.html )
"Two of the plane's eight slides malfunctioned, however, opening inside the cabin and pinning two flight attendants underneath. "

    ( articles.chicagotribune.com/1989-06-18/sports/8902110130_1_bulls-offer-bulls-chances-rick-mahorn )
"But the offer was rejected, leading to speculation the Timberwolves would deal Mahorn, especially since Minnesota will play next season in the Western Conference, known for its quicker tempo."

In the first sentence, the ing-clause "opening inside the cabin....." seems to modify the plane's slides, not the act of the slides' malfunctioning. But in the second sentence, the ing-clause "leading to speculation that....." seems to modify the the offer's rejection, not the offer itself.

The ing-clauses seem to be used differently in those two sentences. Could the use of ing-clause be wrong in one of the sentence?

    They are both correct.

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
