    [I learned German for one year when I was a college student.] Is the sentence acceptable?

    Yes, it is, but I don't know why you put it in brackets rather than quotation marks.

    You can also say "I learnt German for a year...."

    Or also "I studied German for a year...", since that's what you are supposed to do in college .

    You can also say in BrE, "I did German for a year" or "I took German [lessons] for a year".
    Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
