    diverse

Hi there,I don't understand what "diverse" means in the below sentence. Pls help."He is concerned that the current situation at FDA is seriously threatening the evolution of the next generation of medical devices, such as stents, artificial joints, and implanted devices that can help with illnesses as diverse as migraine headaches or menstrual cramps."Does that imply the illnesses that have as many symptoms (or causes) as migraine headaches? Thank you. Beeja

Have you looked up "diverse" in a dictionary?

    Re: diverse

I know what diverse means but I don't understand why the writer said "illnesses as diverse as migraine headaches or menstrual cramps". Is it the same as saying "a new generation of medical devices that help many ranges of illnesses"? That's what I want to confirm.

And believe me, looking up in a dictionary is the first thing I did. If I got the answer, I do not bother to ask such a silly question (to you guys), OK? Thank you.

The word "diverse"was used because the two disorders are markedly different from one another. The implication is that these devices could help a wide range of disorders.
