Any verb to fit this context, please?

    Hi,

I was wondering if you could kindly help me find the right verb in the following context.

There's this man, the father of the family, who hates almost all people around and his children in special! For some reasons he has to leave home and spend a night elsewhere. He has no place to go except his son's. Can we say that he had to 'turn to' his son? Is there any other verb that shows he's going to his son as a last resort?

There are many other ways of saying this, but "turn to as a last resort" is a very common phrase. Once could also say "forced to call his son", "had to ask his son for help", etc.
