Question Simple Question: Gerund vs. Infinitive, any difference in the meaning conveyed?

I am currently teaching a student, and I myself want to extend my understanding of grammar; thus I have a question:

    I like running
    I like to run

Is there any difference conveyed by these two sentences in terms of their deeper meanings and how they should be used most suitably (for instance, when making a list, or when speaking in certain tenses)

Thanks alot for any help that any body can provide.

    Jolly good

    Have a nice day

    Ben

In my view, there is no real difference there. There are other verbs for which a gerund or an infinitive have different meanings.
