A. I would have given him what he asked for.
B. I would have given him what he had asked for.

What is the difference in meaning between the sentences?

Thanks.

On Monday, John asked for some money, I would have given it to him if he had asked me.
If I had seen John on Tuesday (I didn't), I would have given him the money he had asked for on Monday.

I can't understand the sentence in bold. Even if I had seen him on Tuesday, how could I have given him the money on Monday.

[/B] I can't understand the sentence in bold. Even if I had seen him on Tuesday, how could I have given him the money on Monday. [He had asked for it on Monday. You would have given him the money on Tuesday. But you did not see him on Tuesday.]
