    Wish+Would/Wish+Past Simple

    Hi,
Can I use both "wish+past simple" and "wish+would" in these sentences?

"I wish he would go to the party with me." (to express desire=want him to go with me, may be he will go)
"I wish he went to the party with me." (to express regret with the situation, he is not going)
    Thank you.

    No, you can't say 2.
If it refers to the past, it's "I wish he had gone to the party with me."
If it refers to the future, you would use 1. (to express regret with the situation, he is not going)
If you want to express a desire (he might go), you need, "I hope he will go the party with me."

In strange situations - for example, you're given a wish by a genie - you can say, "I wish that Peter will go to the party with me" or "I wish for Peter to go to the party with me". But this is not normal.
