placing an order for my own basket

What does "placing an order for my own basket" mean? Did she have to buy a basket souvernir or something? Only such a thing allowed people to enter the building? I don't think it represent the big building as metaphor.

134)The world's strangest building might be the headquarters of the Longaberger Basket Company in Newark, Ohio. The township is home to the Longaberger Company, makers of pupular hand-woven party baskets. I had great time talking to the entertaining townsfolk and shopping in the local Longaberger stores. But the undoubted highlight was placing an order for my own basket, as it gave me a chance to visit the Longaberger headquarters. This incredible building is actually....

You are correct, this is not a metaphor or any type of idiom. In this sentence, it takes literal meaning - the author ordered (purchased) her own basket so she had a reason to visit the basket company headquarters.

I can see how keannu understood that you had to buy a basket to see through the building. Otherwise, how does placing an order give her a chance to visit the place. Maybe that's a question for basket-weavers?

So, Raymott, does it also sound vague to native speakers? What kind of basket and order do you think they are? If you can't figure it out, I'll just leave it unconsidered.

The company makes "hand-woven party baskets" according to the text so she ordered one of those. I'm not sure what you meant by "what kind of order".
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

No, what sounds strange is that buying a basket gave her a chance to visit. I think it should be "a reason to visit".
