All of humanity is in the same itty bitty boat

    Hi teachers.

What is meaning of the following sentence:

"All of humanity is in the same itty bitty boat."

Is it mean human and animal are same and come from same process?

    Perhaps it's just a metaphor.

All of us in the world are stuck together on this tiny planet in the universe and better make the best of it.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Where do you find any mention of animals in the text? The text only mentions humanity. Humanity refers to people, not animals.

Thank you for correct my sentences and reply. I read the sentence in "Atheism For Dummies" and in chapter, the last one, talks about animals, and
I found "itty bitty bug" also. If it can help:

"To take a single step into that immense scale, drop a penny on the ground, and call it the sun. At this scale, the nearest star — the very nearest one — would be another penny 350 miles away. And it goes from there, trillions of times over. Earth is a speck in space and a blink in time. That makes it pretty unlikely that humans would be the central concern of the creator of all that, but people can still be the central concern of each other. All of humanity is in the same itty bitty boat."

There is no mention of animals in that quote.

I agree with Barb's interpretation which I have quoted above. "All of us" means all the people in the world and, therefore, all humanity. The planet is compared to a tiny boat and we are all on the same boat.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
