    Conditional if

Text: George was a wimpy cat. He was afraid of heights. His friends challenged him to jump from a chair. They promised him a prize if he jumps.

May I know why 'if he jumps' is used instead of 'if he jumped' at the last sentence? Is it correct?

    Re: Conditional if

It does look like a typo to me.
