Apparently following . provided in writing-meaning (especially Apparently following)

    Hello again!

Apparently following his superior's instructions, he later stated that any documents we would like to obtain should be listed and provided in writing.

I understand the above sentence as follows:

Apparently he followed his superior's instructions and later stated that any documents we would like to obtain should be listed and provided in writing.

    or

Because/as/since he followed his superior's instructions, he later stated that any documents we would like to obtain should be listed and provided in writing.

    Thank you.

By "follow one's instructions" I understand "stick/adhere to one's instructions".

He stated that any documents we would like to obtain should be listed and provided in writing. This was apparently in accordance with instructions he had received from his superior.

The second. He stated the thing about the documents because he was following his boss' instructions.
