Can I substitute "takes faith in" for "embraces"?

When one becomes a Christian, one embraces Christianity.

    1. Can I substitute "takes faith in" for "embraces"?

    2. If "takes faith in" is wrong, what other words can be used to replace "embraces"?

    Thanks.
