Hi,

1- My flight was delayed, so it became a good opportunity for me to do shopping. (It is OK)

2- My flight was delayed, so it became a good opportunity for my doing shopping.

Can we use #2 instead of #1?

Thanks.

Both sentences would work better with the word "some" inserted before "shopping".

But they would be even better as:

My flight was delayed, so there was a good opportunity for me to shop.
My flight was delayed, so there was a good opportunity for shopping.

My flight was delayed, so there was a good opportunity for me to shop.
My flight was delayed, so there was a good opportunity for shopping.

Thanks for the answer. What I have understood is that it is a bad choice to use 'for someone's doing something' instead of 'for someone to do something'. For example:

-My flight was delayed, so there was a good opportunity for my shopping.

The sentence you constructed with 'for me to shop' is better. Am I right?

In my opinion, it is.

I find very little difference between "... a good opportunity for me to do some shopping", "... a good opportunity to do some shopping" and "... a good opportunity to shop". I find the last one the least natural.

You are right that they are incorrect with "my".
