the pleasant smell of the wet forest entered through the screen

Considering the whole situation, what kind of "screen" do you think it is? Walls of the camp or something? I can't never guess.

115)The bedroom smelled of the wood it was made of. Early in the morning, the pleasant smell of the wet forest entered through the screen. The walls in the camp were thin, and when I woke up, I dressed softly so as not to wake the others. I came out quietly into the sweet outdoors and started out in the boat along the shore. The lake was cool and motionless in the long shadows of the tall trees. Nothing disturbed the stillness of the lake...

If it was as described a bedroom, I would believe "the screen" was a typical barrier of meshed wire or plastic placed in a window opening that guards against the entry of insects.
