It is important that Early Years practitioners workingwith children and families are aware
of all the different ways in which society constructschildren and childhood and how this
is reflected in the ways in which we think about, talkand write about, and assess children.
We need to ensure that we are careful to see children ina holistic way recognising that
children’s development is a complex combination ofobservable patterns of development
and that the quality and context of their social andcultural environment, and their experiences
within that context, will be highly influential in whothey are and what they can do.
