Please Help With Perkins Menu Grammar

I was at Perkins today and from what I read in their menu I was expecting to get 'both' hash browns 'and' breakfast potatoes. The waitress said no... you only get one or the other. But when I read their menu it clearly looks 'to me' that I get both. Because the word 'or' is after the words 'breakfast potatoes', I thought I had to make a choice whether I wanted breakfast potatoes or fruit; but I always expected to get the hash browns because there was a comma after hash browns. I'm no English expert; please help. Please look at the grammar in this text (below) and let me know if I should get both hash browns and breakfast potatoes, or if the text clearly implies that I get one or the other; not both: The Perkins menu text says:
"Each served with two Grade AA large eggs, cooked to order with hash browns, breakfast potatoes or fruit and choice of three buttermilk pancakes, fresh-baked Mammoth Muffin or white, whole wheat or rye toast."
    Thanks for the help.

Re: Please Help With Perkins Menu Grammar

    Welcome to the forum, James.

I've enjoyed that very dish many times at Perkins. It's never struck me that I might be able to claim both hash browns and breakfast potatoes (the hash browns are better anyway).

It's pretty obvious to me that the phrase 'with hash browns, breakfast potatoes or fruit' means that you choose one of the three, just as 'white, whole wheat or rye toast' means you choose one of those three.

I would take that to mean that I get:

    1. two Grade AA large eggs, cooked to order
    2. hash browns OR breakfast potatoes OR fruit
    3. one of three different three buttermilk pancakes on offer
    4. fresh-baked Mammoth Muffin OR white toast OR whole wheat toast OR rye toast.

I think the final choice is between:
    1. Pancakes (a stack of 3)
    2. Mammoth Muffin
    3. toast (choice of type of bread)

    Overall:
    1. Eggs
    2. Potatoes or fruit
    3. pancakes/muffin/toast

Thanks everyone for your quick response. Now that you all mention it that way; I clearly see it that way as well. I am smarter today; thanks to you all. Thanks again.
