    holiday

Teacher, is this sentence OK? Thank you.

Sorry, I can't attend the party. I will be on holiday and out of town.

    Re: holiday

    not a teacher

It's OK, but it might be more commonly phrased as: "I will be out of town on holiday".

In AmE we don't commonly use the term "holiday" in that context. We would more likely use the term when referring to a specific national holiday such as Labor Day which is September 2 this year. In that case we would typically say/hear, "I will be away for the holiday" , assuming that the listener understood to which national holiday I was referring. On the other hand, if I were to be away on vacation or simply for a day or weekend, you would probably hear something like, "I will be (away, off, out of town) that day.
