I have a idioms dictionary (Oxford) but I am searching for a web site where only formal idioms are listed. I cant use the informal ones in school, especially in texts and essays.

John, I've not seen such a list.
Thank you, I am sure I can need it.
My surmise will be that if your english is very good, then go agaid, but if you use them in excess, the reading of your texts will be weird.
Just have a look at your neck of the woods, the use of idoms vary from one region to the other, even more from a family to an other. So, be carefull.
A test you can make, is to write in your first language with many of idioms and the, read it. You will probably scratch your scalp ;o)
Does anyone know why there are so many idioms that are not in the Oxford books for Idioms but which I find on the Internet or when reading newspaper?
