difference between a statement and a sentence.

    Hello dear all,

I still don't know the difference between a statement and a sentence.

    Are they same?

For example: This is a very nice car.

I don't know whether to call the above example a statement or a sentence.
I will be happy if you clarify the difference between a statement and a sentence.

I have checked the definitions in dictionaries but I haven't understood their difference very well.

    Thank you.

If I say "This is a very nice car", I have made a statement. If I write "This is a very nice car", I have written a sentence.

A statement may also consist of more than one sentence.
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....

And a sentence can be spoken as well as written.
