1. Mr Whitaker: Could I speak to Ms Johnson, please?

1-Hang up I'll call you back.
2-No I'd prefer to hang on, it's very important.
3-Yes I'll put you through.
4-Yes, I'd like to speak to the person who deals with paying your suppliers, please.

I select 3-Yes I'll put you through.Correct?

Thank you.

Where did you find this? #2 seems to be a response to #1.

#3 is the only acceptable way to response to the original request to speak to Ms. Johnson.

What a bizarre exercise! #2 and #4 would only make sense if spoken by Mr Whitaker later in the conversation. #1 is possible but if that were the response from a company's receptionist, I would stop dealing with that company and hope that the receptionist would be fired!

#3 is the only line which makes any sense at all in response to Mr Whitaker's opening line.

What a bizarre exercise!

And it's not the only one you've been asking about recently, ucef.

Where are you getting these questions from?

ucef, it would make life rather easier for us all if you gave us the instructions for these questions you were posting.
