    tenses

Are both the following sentences correct?

Five years ago I was already cooperating with them. I cooperated with them for more than 15 years and it was a dream come true.

Five years ago I was already cooperating with them. I was cooperating with them for more than 15 years and it was a dream come true.

I guess in each pair it'd be better to use Past Perfect Continuous in the first part (had already been cooperating) but I have doubts as to the second part. Is 'cooperated' better than 'was cooperating'? If yes, why?

    Thanks in advance for replies.

Yes, in the first sentence I would use "I had already been cooperating with them" and in the second , either past or past continuous would be OK, but I would prefer "was cooperating" to emphasize that the action was on-going.
