    Question Are the sentences correct?

Hello. I have the following sentences:
They went not the way they have been told to go.
They went not the way they have been sent to.
Is there anything wrong with them?

    I am not a teacher.
    - I think you should edit your sentences,
They didn't go to went not the way they had have been told to go (before).
They didn't go to went not the way they had have been sent to (before).
    - If this is incorrect, please help me!

    Your sentences should be

'They didn't go the way they were told to go'.

'They didn't go the way they were sent.'

In both sentences you could change 'were' to 'had been' without any difference in meaning.

    Re: Are the sentences correct?

Thank you for your response Rover.

The meaning of the sentence 'They didn't go the way they were sent' is that they just didn't go there, right? Maybe they continued staying where they were. But the original russian sentence emphasises that they went somewhere but it was the wrong direction. And I was wondering if I can express exactly the same meaning in English.

    Re: Are the sentences correct?

'They didn't go the way they were sent' means that they went a different way. They didn't stay where they were.

Your post was presumably deleted because it was wrong and was given as an answer to a question from a learner. Incorrect answers can be confusing to the person who asked the question.

I deleted it, hoangthi, as it was incorrect and unhelpful. It would be better if you waited for a teacher to respond before trying to answer questions yourself. We would like the opportunity to correct the text of one student before another student posts text which needs correction.

Now that I have answered the original question and other teachers have agreed with me (via the 'Like' button) I have restored your post for others to see that your suggestions didn't make much sense.

    Re: Are the sentences correct?

    Yes, I am sorry.
Please tell me what incorrect is in my sentence:
    - They didn't go to the way they had been told to go.
I think I should use the Past Perfect here because "They had been told to go (the way)" before "They didn't go that way"

I am newbie so I need your helps very much !

I think I should use the past perfect here because "They had been told to go (the way)" before "They didn't go that way". The simple past is OK, too.
