Is it correct to say:
Does your dog like to be petted?
Does your dog like to be pet?
The answer is the former. The question is in passive voice and so takes the past participle form of the verb. The past participle of "to pet" is "petted": viz. "I have petted the dog".Originally Posted by Brandi4035
As a point of interest, in the dialect of English spoken in North-East England it is quite common to replace the past participle with the imperfect form. It is so common in fact that speakers of the dialect often do a rule projection onto verbs with an irregular imperfect, so "Does your dog like to be pet?" would not sound unnatural.
