    1. I like apples the best.

    2. I like apples best.

    My comments is :

    a. Number one is correct.
    b. But there are some reading materials written as Number 2.

    Which one is correct, please?

    I've heard both often enough to be unsure whether one is more correct than the other. In fact, I'm not sure why we tend to use "best" in sentences like this. "Most" would be more appropriate, but I guess that's the way it is with natural languages.
