Did you remember (to lock/locking) the door?

What should be the most appropriate sentence and why ?

    Thanks

    Re: to lock / locking

Do you remember locking the door? - Do remember now the act of locking the door at some earlier time?
Did you remember to lock the door. - Did you remember at some earlier that it was necessary to lock the door? Did you lock it?
