    Grammar of "Back Up To"

    For these pairs of sentences:

1a "The yard backs to a lake."
1b "The yard backs up to a lake."

2a "The stove backs to a wall."
2b "The stove backs up to a wall."

Are the b-versions very different from the a-versions? What meaning does "up" add?

Re: Grammar of "Back Up To"

If I make a slight change:

1a "The yard backs to a lake."
1b "The yard backs up to a lake."
1c "The yard backs onto a lake."

2a "The stove backs to a wall."
2b "The stove backs up to a wall."
2c "The stove backs onto a wall."

Is "back onto" very different from "back up to"?

The pain is obviously getting lazy, posting an identical question just under a different username. Perhaps she's getting as bored with it all as we got a very long time ago.
Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.
